On Apr 7th a small group of concerned residents including Micheal Ma & Trixe Dyole met up via a conference call to review next steps in reaction to these challenging times.
It was agreed that a non-partisan approach is absolutely warranted; meaning that all levels of local government in Don Valley East must work together to inform and assist vulnerable residents.
It was agreed that we must recognise the digital divide – meaning that many vulnerable residents do not use social media or email. Those residents are most likely the elderly who are at high risk of being impacted by COVID 19.
The following next steps should be acted / supported by via a consortium of the three main levels of government – municipal, provincial, & federal – within Don Valley East. Each level of government shall provide the assistance that they specialize in.
The recommendation:
Send a mail-out to the entire WARD that includes the following information:
1. important contact information (PHONE NUMBER) to get help in Don Valley East
2. COVID 19 updates and instructions
3. Ensure all levels of local government – in Don Valley East – are working together and remain personally involved ensuring that folks that call in are getting the help they need
4. to ensure full dissemination of information put up posters at grocery stores, librarys, and other key public spots that make sense
Feel free to provide feedback and/or join the next conference call.
